Background, Eligibility, and Application Instructions

The Donner Scholarship is named after William Donner Roosevelt (1932-2003); a leading North American philanthropist, whose paternal grandfather was Franklin D. Roosevelt and his maternal grandfather William Donner. Thanks to a generous benefaction from the Donner Foundation, Magdalene offers one Donner Scholarship each year to an academically excellent candidate with primary British or Canadian nationality who holds a University offer for an MPhil degree in a topic relevant to Anglo-American relations.

The scholarship can provide full fees and maintenance costs. Applicants are expected to apply for other sources of funding and the Donner Scholarship will be adjusted to take other funds received into consideration.

Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate the potential to make a significant contribution to Anglo-American relations and the broader life of the College. The offer holder will be selected by Magdalene College. It is a condition of the award that the recipient be a member of Magdalene College or willing to transfer to Magdalene College.

It is expected that all applicants will have been made an offer by the University before the scholarship application deadline of 8 March 2024.
